Detailed environmental reporting
ANSTO systematically measures for potential air and liquid emmissions by maintaining a long term monitoring program. As well as measuring levels of radiation, we measure air quality, stormwater leaving the site and effluent discharge.
Overall, ANSTO commits significant resources to effectively monitor, manage and report on its enviromental impacts and responsibilities.
The monitoring program includes:
- radiological source monitoring ( i.e. airborne emissions and liquid effluent released to the sewer)
- collecting meteorological data
- environmental monitoring ( for example, of surface and ground waters, and ambient radiation levels)
The results and findings from the environmental monitoring program are available to the public in an annual report series Environmental and Effluent Monitoring at ANSTO sites.

ANSTO also reports to the Department of Environment and Water Resources about all activities that fall under the National Environmental Protection Measures.
