Environmental responsibility
ANSTO's research facility is located on an ideal site for modelling green management and environmental responsibility. ANSTO's research and operations function on 70 hectares of bushland outside Sydney , surrounded by a 1.6km buffer zone . With a daily population of 850 scientists, engineers and workers, the ecological footprint is carefully managed, tested, measured and monitored.
A small environmental footprint
The influence of ANSTO's environmental initiatives extends into the surrounding bush parks, passing rivers, neighbouring residential suburbs, to the nearby ocean, and regional air quality.
It's the dedication of ANSTO's scientists and engineers that influences and encourages the many voluntary environmental initiatives, the types of action taken and the extent to which these compliment environmental regulation and obligations .
ANSTO has established a highly regarded reputation in its role as a custodian of the grounds.
That reputation rests partly on ANSTO's efforts to retain green landscapes within the midst of a built environment, and extend its research and results into environmental management methods that can be copied elsewhere to combat the influences of urban congestion and pollution in our world.
