APFA 2009/ APPTC 2009

The 7th General Scientific Assembly of the Asia Plasma and Fusion Association (*APFA2009*) and the Asia-Pacific Plasma Theory Conference (*APPTC2009*) will be held in Aomori, Japan, during October 27-30 2009.

APFA in general covers a broad range of topics in plasma and fusion sciences. APPTC covers the topics related to the plasma theory and numerical simulation.

  • · Magnetic and Inertial Confinement [ APFA, APPTC ],
  • · Fusion Engineering and Technology including Reactor Design and
  • · Materials [APFA],
  • · Basic Plasma Science (including Laser Plasmas and Astronomical
  • · Plasmas) [APFA, APPTC],
  • · Plasma Theory, Modeling and Numerical Simulation [APFA, APPTC],
  • · Industrial Applications of Plasma Technology [APFA], and
  • · Role of Fusion in Energy and Environmental Problems [APFA].

In particular, the APFA2009/APPTC2009 will be held with an emphasis on 'Integration of Elements of Science and Technology toward Realization of Fusion Energy and Other Plasma Applications'. This includes technology integration like breeding blanket, superconducting magnet, machine assembly, operation of systems, integrated modeling, plasma operation such as steady-state operation and integration of scientific knowledge to explore new scientific frontier and industrial applications. Topics of common interests for both APFA and APPTC will be allocated in the Thursday Sessions on October 29 as indicated in the schedule table below by 'APFA/APPTC'.

Applicants for submission of papers may select possible topics (A-F) and categories (APFA or APPTC). Abstract Deadlines: July 31, 2009

ISHW 2009

17th International Stellarator/Heliotron Workshop, October 12th-16th, 2009 Together with the 6th CWGM & International Collaboration on Stellarator Theory Meeting, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, Princeton, New Jersey, USA.

The Workshop is hosted by PPPL in the framework of the IEA Implementing Agreement for Cooperation in Development of the Stellarator Concept. The Workshop covers all areas of fusion research in helical systems and related concepts. The 6th Coordinated Working Group Meeting (CWGM) will be held October 8-9, also at PPPL. The sessions will be composed of  presentations as well as discussion to plan joint activities. The 'International Collaboration on Stellarator Theory' meeting will be held October 19-21, also at PPPL. Presentations for specialists in neoclassical and kinetic transport theory for helical systems are invited. The scope will include collaboration in gyrokinetic turbulent transport (code benchmarking and planning for comparison with experiment) and benchmarking of equilibrium codes.

Abstract Deadline: 3 July, 2009
