Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS)
The Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) Group operates the AMS resources at ANSTO. These include the measurement capabilities at the Australian National Tandem for Applied Research (ANTARES), our new Small Tandem for Applied Research (STAR), and sample processing and target preparation in the AMS chemistry laboratories.
These accelerator facilities provide nuclear based isotopic and elemental analysis significantly improving the infrastructure for a national research program on scientific studies related to the environment, archaeology, heritage, biology, and materials science, particularly with Australian universities.
Our research is based on delivering radiocarbon dating analyses from diverse natural materials such as lake sediments, rock-art paintings, tree-rings, ice-cores, corals, soils and air to better understand our changing environment, landscape and climate in the southern hemisphere.
