Australia's challenges in environmental sustainability rival those of anywhere on Earth.It is also one of the few nations with the capacity to measure, monitor and attempt to mitigate many of these environmental challenges.
The Institute for Environmental Research (IER) at ANSTO has a unique set of expertise and tools which will be essential in contributing to how Australians might learn to understand how our environmental systems function and respond to environmental stress.
Our vision is to be recognised as an international centre of excellence in the application of nuclear science and technology to environmental challenges in Australia and globally. We collaborate and contribute to research in the major universities in Australia and with over fifty of the World's major environmental research organisations, and we work in every continent.
Our programs focus on four main areas:
We employ mass spectrometers, accelerators and advanced chemical and biological methods at the cutting edge of technology to contribute to high profile science and industry and government need.
