Nick Loh started at the Bragg Institute in August 2006 on a joint PhD with the University of WA condensed matter physics group. The group has a strong interest in nanoscale magnetism and Nick's project will involve the use of both neutron and x-ray scattering to investigate the properties of magnetic nanostructures, in particular competing ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic interactions in thin Mn films. Also to be considered are particular transition metal alloys which are candidates for spintronic materials.

Nick completed his honours project at UWA in astrophysics looking at galaxy halo dark matter before changing tack to condensed matter physics.
