RESEARCH INNNOVATOR GRANTS IN PANCREATIC CANCER 2009
The Cancer Council NSW (TCCNSW) has developed a new granting scheme, known as Innovator Grants, to promote the development and sharing of innovative cancer research ideas, which address agreed research goals in pancreatic cancer.
Innovator Grants offer opportunities for researchers of any background that have a strong commitment to research, have demonstrated their potential to undertake high quality scientific research and have an ability to identify novel ways to answer pressing questions for improving patient outcomes.
The Cancer Council NSW seeks proposals from all areas of basic, clinical, public health practice, behavioural, and epidemiological research.
Proposals should be for innovative and original research projects of high quality and potential. The projects must be aligned to the research goals in pancreatic cancer that have been identified through one of The Cancer Council?s Strategic Research Partnerships
Pancreatic Cancer Research Priorities
The following seven research priorities in pancreatic cancer have been agreed through the various consensus methods employed by The Cancer Council NSW.
� Define genetic and environmental factors which influence the overall risk and natural history of pancreatic cancer
� Define markers of prognosis and therapeutic responsiveness which will facilitate the development of stratified and ultimately personalised therapies for pancreatic cancer
� Develop a better understanding of tumour biology including that of the normal pancreas, and pancreatic carcinogenesis
� The development and assessment of novel therapies and therapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer
� Validate the optimal / timely / consistent management for all stages of pancreatic cancer
� Define the most common disease-and treatment-related sequelae of pancreatic cancer on patients and their carers, and identify strategies for managing them
� Develop strategies to identify patients with pancreatic cancer at a potentially curable stage
Researchers working in Australian institutions are eligible to apply.
Applicants must address at least one of the seven published research priorities in pancreatic cancer.
While applications are open all year round, our preference is to receive them on or before 19 December 2008
