Tech transfer

ANSTO's quality research and expertise in nuclear-based science and technology underpins the production and development of new

Ceramisphere

innovations for the benefit of Australian industry and society.

How ANSTO transfers technology

One of ANSTO's key objectives is to encourage and facilitate the application of knowledge and technology developed by the organisation for a wide range of industry applications. This 'bench-to-business' technology transfer is done through proof of development and proof of concept, licensing and patenting, establishing joint ventures with companies, and the protecting and transferring of intellectual property.

Current technology transfer opportunities

ANSTO has many successful examples of technology transfer opportunities and maintains ongoing development of technologies.

CeramiSphere™ - patented technology that provides encapsulation and controlled release of active molecules for a variety of applications including drug delivery, cosmeceuticals, home and household care, food and speciality chemicals.

Australian Membrane Technologies Pty Ltd - utilising nanoparticulate membrane bioreactor technology which eliminates costly elements in the treatment and recycling of household waste water, and could enable households and small communities to make water saving of up to 60%.

PipeStrain - software to provide commercial assessment of the strain that cross-country pipes can withstand given the terrain and type of welding joins used, saving companies money by allowing them to time repairs and replacements accurately.

Aquarisk - environmental risk assessment software for predicting industrial impacts on water systems and allowing companies (notably mining companies) to practice efficient and cost-effective environmental management.

synrocANSTO - tough, impermeable, synthetic rock for encapsulating, compressing and storing high level radioactive waste. A UK company has adopted synroc to decommission old nuclear power stations and make their plutonium waste safe.
