Radiation Safety
ANSTO is Australia's national nuclear research and development organisation and the centre of Australian nuclear expertise. With a staff of approximately 900, ANSTO is responsible for delivering specialised advice, scientific services and products to government, industry, academia and other research organisations.
ANSTO has over 50 years of nuclear experience and has a proven record in all aspects of waste management including conditioning, storage, health physics assessments, risk assessment, safety case development, categorisation and classification, surveys and radiological monitoring.
At ANSTO's Lucas Heights site we successfully manage all aspects of radioactive material, handling both solid and liquid forms of low and intermediate level waste. ANSTO also provides nuclear waste management support to the medical, mining, environmental protection and nuclear industries.

ANSTO, Australia's centre of nuclear expertise, is the country's leading advisor on international radiation protection, security and waste management committees, technical meetings and guidance organisations. Through ANSTO's relationship with the International Atomic Energy Agency and other international nuclear organisations, ANSTO is well positioned to provide current information on international best practice.
Within Australia, ANSTO continues to represent a strong resource in radiation protection and provides the local professional associations (ARPS, SPERA) with membership and support. ANSTO is certified in both quality assurance (ISO9001) and environmental management (ISO14001).
