Xray Operations and Research (XOR) Beamlines - Access and Forms
|
Applications are currently being accepted for the XOR Sectors 1,2 and 4 and 20 beamlines. There are three application rounds per year The next deadline for proposals to access XOR beamlines is Friday February 23 2007. This deadline is for proposals seeking beamtime allocations in the May-August, 2007 operations cycle. The APS operating schedule can be viewed at http://www.aps.anl.gov/Facility/Schedule/index.html. Proposals should be mailed or emailed to the ASRP office (address below). Hardcopy or electronic proposal forms can be obtained from the ASRP office via mail or email, or can be downloaded here. The ASRP will now fund experiments on any XOR beamline, where beamtime has been obtained via the APS General User Proposal (GUP) system. Once you receive your beamtime notification send an "Application for Support for Access to the APS" form to the ASRP office, along with a copy of the beamtime notification and your GUP proposal. The access support form is included in the "XOR_Proposal.doc" file: see the download link immediately above. Thus there are two access routes to XOR beamlines:
Descriptions of all APS beamlines can be found in the beamline directory. Proposals can be submitted to the ASRP office electronically, but an original signed copy MUST be sent by mail.
APS User Orientation:Applicants should note that most of the XOR beamlines are heavily oversubscribed. While the XOR Committee would like to encourage new users, applications that are not deemed to be technically feasible by the XOR Committee will be rejected and applicants will be asked to resubmit a new application in the following round that addresses the issues raised. Applicants (especially those who are new users or who will be attempting a new type of experiment) are strongly advised to discuss the details of the proposed experiments with an appropriate member of the XOR Committee well before the closing date. They should also send a detailed plan of the proposed experiments to this person at least a week before the due date in order to ensure that the proposed experiments are technically feasible and can be completed within the time requested. The appropriate contact people in the first instance are: Once at the APS, first time users have to undergo a thorough orientation and training process. This process is described step by step on the APS user orientation web page. Important: If you obtain beamtime via the ASRP, you are covered by the ANSTO/ASRP Institutional Agreement with the APS. Please insert "ANSTO" in parentheses following your institution name on the user registration form. Steps 1 and 2 of the orientation, user registration and reading the APS User and User Safety Guides, should be done on line prior to your trip via the above orientation web page. In addition, the General Employee Radiation Training (GERT) study guide should be read beforehand, again, on the orientation web page. Users have to pass a multiple choice exam (step 3) as part of the orientation process. Other Useful Links for Users Travelling to the APS:
AcknowledgmentsAny publication resulting from ASRP funded trips to SRI-CAT must be acknowledged using the paragraph below:
One copy of each published manuscript should be sent to the ASRP administration office as soon as possible after the publication date. In addition, please ensure that the ASRP, and the use of Synchrotron Radiation, is acknowledged in any press release resulting from ASRP supported research. This is very important to ensure the continued funding and growth of the synchrotron program in Australia. Document details: Original Web document.
